About Chris Junker, PT
I am a New York City–based physical therapist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and related orofacial pain.
With more than 30 years of clinical experience, I have worked with patients experiencing persistent jaw pain, dysfunction, and associated musculoskeletal conditions. This work has led to a focused clinical approach centered on restoring healthy jaw mechanics and improving function.
A Focused Commitment to TMJ Care
Early in my clinical work, I began working closely with patients experiencing temporomandibular joint disorders and related conditions.
Over time, it became increasingly clear that many individuals with TMJ symptoms were not receiving focused care that addressed the mechanical, muscular, and behavioral contributors to their condition.
This led to a more dedicated focus on TMJ evaluation and treatment, with continued refinement of a clinical approach centered on restoring normal jaw function and reducing strain on the joint and surrounding structures.
Clinical Perspective
Temporomandibular joint disorders are often more complex than they initially appear.
In many cases, symptoms are influenced by a combination of factors, including joint mechanics, muscular tension patterns, cervical involvement, posture, and behavioral habits such as clenching or grinding.
Because of this, TMJ dysfunction is not always isolated to the jaw itself, but may involve multiple interacting systems that affect how the joint moves and functions.
My approach is based on identifying these contributing factors and understanding how they interact in each individual case.
Treatment Philosophy
My approach to TMJ care is centered on careful evaluation, hands-on treatment, movement retraining, and patient education.
Rather than focusing only on symptom relief, treatment is directed toward identifying and addressing the underlying contributors to dysfunction.
Care is individualized, with the goal of improving jaw mechanics, reducing muscular strain, and restoring more normal function.
This practice was developed to provide specialized TMJ care for patients seeking focused treatment in New York City.
Patients often pursue care after experiencing persistent symptoms despite previous dental treatment, night guards, medication, or generalized therapy.
One-On-One Care
All treatment is provided one-on-one.
This allows for a more focused and individualized clinical experience than is typically possible in a high-volume setting.
Sessions are structured to allow for careful evaluation, hands-on treatment, and guided movement retraining based on each patient’s specific needs.
